Competitive Analysis of Smartphone Industry of India
Mobile phone has become a necessary thing in our day to day life. We cannot imagine a second without it. From the very inception when mobile phone came into the market till now there has been dramatic changes in the design, functionality, specifications and many other aspects. Previously two major players dominated the market. Nokia and Samsung. Gradually more players entered the market like Lava, Motorola, Gionee, i-ball to name a few. Then we saw the takeover of Nokia by Microsoft and launching its products by the name of Microsoft. In 2014 the entry of a new company changed the fate of the Smartphone Market entirely. They came with Smartphones in the Budget category i.e. between ₹5,000 to ₹20,000. The Brand was Xiaomi. Currently there are many players in the Indian Smartphone Market. But the major players for almost half a decade are Xiaomi who are the market leaders in the Budget Smartphone Segment followed by Vivo and Samsung is in third place. While all other companies come below these 3. Samsung once was the market leader in all the segments of Smartphone market. But with the coming of Xiaomi in 2014, the tables turned completely and Samsung is currently struggling to regain its position in the budget segment. The reason behind the success of Xiaomi is that they provided all those features that a user can get in a premium smartphone at an affordable price for the middle class Indian Population. Although in the Budget segment the competition is tough now that many companies like Oppo, Vivo, Realme have come into the picture but among this tough competition also, Xiaomi is however holding its position. Samsung however has now shifted from the budget segment to the premium segment with their device's in the S Series like S10, Z Flip etc. In the premium category the 3 major players are Apple, Samsung and 1+. All of them are equally good in this segment and it really becomes difficult to choose from these 3 companies whose device to buy. But in the Indian Market the majority of the population are middle class so they can't afford such high end devices and that's the reason companies like Xiaomi and Realme are doing good business
